New FM sports station in Boston wins Marconi Award for top sports station of 2011
- to “98.5 The Sports Hub.”
The CBS-owned sports talk station took home the 2011 national Marconi Award for top sports station of the year.
The award is radio’s equivalent of an Oscar.
The honors were announced last night.
“Winning the Marconi Award for Sports Station of the Year is an honor and a testament to all of the hard work and commitment that the employees of 98.5 the Sports Hub put in everyday,” Sports Hub honcho Mark Hannon said in a press release today.
“More importantly though, we owe a huge debt of gratitude to Boston radio listeners and sports fans who have embraced 98.5 The Sports Hub since we launched 2 years ago, and it’s because of their overwhelming support that we find ourselves receiving this national recognition,” Hannon said.
The honor comes days after WEEI - a past winner of the sports station of the year award - jumped over to Boston’s FM dial. WEEI-AM (850) is now heard [simulcast] on 93.7 formerly MIKE FM."
1. "I understand why Chad Finn hates WEEI. His communist bosses at the Globe require him to. They may even kick his pay up to $100 a column if he criticizes them harshly enough. I don’t understand why Jessica hates them so much. Did she have a run-in with Callahan or Buckley? What’s the story? Both of these so-called columnists have been openly rooting for 98.5 since they launched.
