First, Derek Jeter’s 3,000th hit, a home run to left field on July 9, ricocheted off him and was retrieved by his 23-year-old son, Christian. “He missed it because he has awful hands,” the son said at the time, teasing his father in a televised interview.

The NY Times Bats Blog post contains an MLB video of Mr. Lopez' catch. The video is preceded by a commercial currently running across television including MLB games. It depicts a likely terrorist bomb being planted on a bus in an ordinary looking suitcase and that we should be alert to such events. Apparently MLB and the NY Times agree with the Obama administration that we should look out for bombs placed by clean cut, white, middle class Americans, since that's the appearance of the individual selected for this 'anti-terror' campaign. ed.
