MLB fires Port, Burns, and Hamilton

3/7/11, "Major League Baseball has fired three executives as part of the restructuring that put Joe Torre in charge of baseball operations.

The commissioner's office said Monday that

  • vice president of umpiring Mike Port,
  • vice president of operations and administration Ed Burns and
  • senior specialist of on-field operations Darryl Hamilton

have been let go.

Hamilton is a former major league player and Port a former big league general manager.

Torre was hired Feb. 26 by Commissioner Bud Selig as executive vice president of baseball operations."
