Concept of walk-off hit in the 8th inning

• Speaking of Melky Cabrera's late inning heroics:

(Newsday, Boland): "Cabrera, with three walk-off hits already to his credit this season, ripped a two-run home run

• in the bottom of the eighth inning

• to provide the final margin in Thursday's 8-6 victory over the Rangers.

• With Mariano Rivera pitching the ninth, that's almost

• a walk-off hit."...

The same concept was noted on Yankee radio. After the game, John Sterling speaking:

• "As Suzyn (Waldman) said" during the game, with Melky getting the lead run in the 8th inning and Mariano coming in in the 9th,
• "it's almost a walk-off hit."
