- Is it possible he injured it via excessive fist pumping?
Newsday, Rieber: BALTIMORE - "
Joba Chamberlain "popped a blood vessel" in his right thumb during batting practice Saturday, according to manager
Joe Girardi, and may not start Sunday against
the Orioles.
- Girardi said he held long reliever Alfredo Aceves out of last night's 12-5 loss to the Orioles in case Chamberlain can't pitch today.
Girardi said the thumb was black and blue. He said he
wasn't sure exactly how it happened"...Newsday, "Joba Injures Right Thumb"
- Maybe it happened during one of his incessant fist pumps. Or maybe it's from excessive use of video games (which should be a banned activity for pitchers anyway).
- In any case, it's always wise to let a supposed phenom make it through at least one season before crowning him an ACTUAL phenom. sm
