Pitcher's increased velocity alone mistakenly viewed as positive effect of steroids, eg. Dan Naulty
Dan Naulty's 2nd selling point--pounced on by the 'watchdog' media-- was his increased velocity made him better (and in his imagination cost others their jobs-also not necessarily so but promoted by the media).*** A statistics minded mlblogger looked into it further and found his performance unchanged by his increased velocity, 2/29/08:
- "Dan Naulty is "the guy who was on (ESPN's) Outside the Lines", his performance was unchanged by his added velocity (I've got this stuff too). Essentially
- his K/9IP went down. Throughout his Major League career, as he used, gained weight & velocity,
- his major league career got worse as it went on;
- It sounds reasonable enough to look into. From 2/29/08, Baseball As I See It, mikemac.mlblogs/archives, 2/2008
- ***NY Post's (12/18/07) Brian Costello reports alleged victim Mike Trombley never once thought he was edged out by anyone. Mentioned at end of article most of which is self-serving sob story about Naulty. Posted on this blog, 5/1/08.
- "Dan, by mentioning the Yankees in your 24/7 sob story, does this increase your chance of getting a book deal--even though your story has almost nothing to do with the Yankees and their star players whose names you so sanctimoniously drop?
