- Ken Singleton on WFAN said Marvin Miller would have handled the situation differently. (ie Miller would have handled it better than Gene Orza did).
- Kevin Kennedy on FoxSports radio, 8PM hour (ET), 'this business about Arod being the best player in the game, I never thought that. He stikes out too much. Any guy who strikes out 140 times isn't that great.' (Arod had 139K in both 2005 and 2006. Kennedy thinks Pujols is best).
Mike Francesa on WFAN: People often say players on NY teams are seen as better than they really are because of media hype (implying that the 'hype' is positive). The reverse of course is more likely. Today's example from
Mike Francesa on WFAN. Francesa is a life long Yankee fan, and a big fan of Andy Pettitte (apart from Pettitte screwing up this off season negotiation).
- Although Andy has never been accused of taking steroids by anyone, but admitted to 4 injections of HGH, 2 while on the DL in 2002, and 2 sometime with the Astros, local newspapers and radio have often screamed that Andy did steroids. Chris Russo said it numerous times when he was on WFAN and Mike never corrected him.The 2 substances are not even remotely the same.
Today, Mike alone mentioned Andy's name twice in his first hour when giving his opinion about the Arod thing, saying both times, that Andy did steroids. One phone call from Andy's agent, someone at the Yankees, or Andy himself could stop this. Most who've said this about Andy did so for sensationalist or malicious reasons and could be charged with slander or libel. I wouldn't say that about Mike, as I said he's a fan. Mike just wasn't being careful and doesn't understand how bad the media situation is in NY.
- Tampa Bay Rays Hot Stove on 620AM in Tampa, I just caught the tail end, which mentioned Fan Fest coming up this Saturday at the Trop. I found myself getting excited about their new light blue T-shirts as the guys described them. They noted 620AM WDAE has a better signal than the previous station 1250AM. A promo following the show said the Rays play the Yankees on April 13.
