Murray Chass on NY Times-Red Sox ownership
Mr. Chass (a former NY Times employee) praises the NY Times for attempting to sell its share of the Boston Red Sox and details the appearance of conflict of interest. He didn't mention the biggest conflict of all-
- that with Red Sox owner George Mitchell and by extension Bud Selig in NY Times coverage of the so-called Mitchell Report. In my reading and documentation on this blog, the NY Times' coverage slanted heavily and somberly in Mitchell's favor. Those who don't think so may be of the opinion that Mitchell, Selig, and the Times are gifts to humanity and couldn't possibly be biased. But everyone has bias.
- No one questioned serious conflicts written in the Mitchell Report involving certain players and special treatment by MLB. In a few buried instances they were mentioned, but never followed up.
