Baseball Writers are enshrined themselves by Selig, intricately woven into various committees involved in this process. A person going into the field of baseball writing as a career is missing an internal link of independence to begin with--which is fine until you consider others' lives are at stake. They're unlikely to question their highest authority in a meaningful way to begin with.
