Santana and the Mets kept injury secret til off season.
The Mets were able to keep secret that star player Johan Santana was pitching on a badly injured knee. The shock of this revelation came today from the Mets themselves--after season's end--and after his surgery. Hence the Newsday back cover.
- The Mets have a different philosophy in this area than Brian Cashman does, as he expressed in an interview with Mike Francesa today. Cashman seems to feel powerless in the face of New York media, that what's his is theirs. He feels 'no secret about a New York team' is safe, just because it is New York and different from other markets (he says), ie you should always tell about player health status because 'it will get out' anyway.
- Result: The Mets player is a hero today and
- no Mets manager is humilated by his GM
- and forced to apologize to a parasitic media mob.
