An even greater escape for Mo--Game 4 of the 2006 Boston Massacre

Game 4 of the 2006 Boston Massacre, 8/20/06, a Sunday Night ESPN game at Boston, went 10 innings, 4 hours and 17 minutes. Rivera entered with the score tied 5-5 bottom of the 9th.
  • He again loaded the bases, though he got 1 out along the way (from a bunt). In this case, if he had given up just the 1 run, the game would've been over, making this game an even greater escape than today:
Bottom of the 9th, Red Sox Batting, Tied 5-5, Mariano Rivera facing 3-4-5
Mariano Rivera replaces Bobby Abreu pitching and batting 3rd; Alex Rodriguez moves to 3B (team loses DH); Bernie Williams moves to RF
--- 5 18% D Ortiz Double to RF (Ground Ball)
          -2- 4 17% M Ramirez Intentional Walk

          12- 15% M Lowell Passed Ball; Ramirez to 3B; Youkilis to 2B
      -23 4 16% " " Intentional Walk
Eric Hinske pinch hits for Gabe Kapler batting 7th
   O 123 4 33% E Hinske Strikeout Swinging
   O 123 1 50% D Mirabelli Groundout: P-1B
                  0 runs, 1 hit, 0 errors, 3 LOB. Yankees 5, Red Sox 5.

****************Rivera also pitched the 10th, and got the Win. (No save--In my experience, Goose Gossage and Tim Kurkjian won't tell you about a game like this).
Monday, August 21, 2006, winning the 5th game of the 2006 Boston Massacre.
