Gerry Fraley sez--Doug Brocail was heart of San Diego bullpen
"The Padres set a major-league record last season (2007) by opening with 29 consecutive scoreless innings from the bullpen. For the season, the Padres had the lowest bullpen ERA in the majors at 3.01.
- Righthander Doug Brocail apparently was the heart of that bullpen. Brocail went to Houston as a free agent, and the Padres' relievers have not been the same. They are 1-5 with four saves in seven chances and the fifth-highest ERA in the majors at 5.40."
