One way street, per B Ripken

"It's never a good idea to do things through the media," a player should talk to his management behind closed doors. The GM's would be much happier that way-- rather than being questioned by reporters about what a player has said."
  • For the record. Bill Ripken says this today on XM 175 with Rob Dibble. Discussing Papelbon's recent statements about his salary, Ripken says players in general should not speak about these kinds of issues through the media.
So it's OK for ownership to use the media to get a message to a player or players, but not OK for players to do it? That's what I thought.**********
  • P.S. Bill as usual is too close to the microphone, but reprises his wise, all-knowing baseball authority self I've heard him do before. For no apparent reason he restates that "players on (tobacco lobbyist) Mitchell's list coullllllld have come in to seeeeee him befooooooore their names went on the repooooooort but nooooooo one diddddddd." This doesn't answer Dibs' points, which were:
  • The report should've been about all teams or not done at all.
  • There were many names that should've been on the list but weren't.
Hey, it's the owners' channel, XM picks the voices, so that's the story.
