Statement on behalf of Roger Clemens

HOUSTON -- "Roger Clemens vehemently denies allegations in the Mitchell report that he used performance-enhancing steroids, and is outraged that his name is included in the report based on the uncorroborated allegations of a troubled man threatened with federal criminal prosecution.

"Roger has been repeatedly tested for these substances and he has never tested positive. There has never been one shred of tangible evidence that he ever used these substances and yet he is being slandered today," said Clemens attorney Rusty Hardin."

  • Just an observation, as I play devil's advocate, but notice how Roger Clemens never denies using steroids in his statement, he only denies allegations of using PERFORMANCE-ENHANCING steroids, possibly leaving open an argument that, in fact, he used "non-performance-enhancing" steroids. This would extend to the allegations of slander to the extent that it is false and misleading to claim Clemens enhanced his performance with steroids.

  • I agree, Seth, it's more of a non-denial denial.
