NY Times version leaves misleading view on Pettitte vs words read from report

I understand this is an early NY Times story on what's actually the 'Radomski-McNamee' report, but it willl be accepted around the world without question. They connect Andy Pettitte's name with the results of the "late 90's" Yankee teams. The actual words from the report read on WFAN regarding Pettitte said his activity was in April 2002 and involved HGH, not steroids. That's all that was said in the report about Pettitte according to WFAN. (Mike and Chris on don't even distinguish between HGH and steroids).
  • Paragraph from the NY Times:
"Clemens was among several players named in the report from the Yankees championship teams of the late 1990s, which put together one of the most dominant performances in baseball, winning three consecutive World Series from 1998 to 2000. Others from those teams included Andy Pettitte, David Justice and Chuck Knoblauch. Other players named included Gary Sheffield, Kevin Brown, Lenny Dykstra, Denny Neagle, Todd Hundley, Mike Stanton, Paul Lo Duca and Eric Gagné."
  • The sentence, "Others from those teams included Andy Pettitte,..." etc. leaving the reader no choice but to view at least Pettitte as an offender in those championships, but the report says nothing like that.
Quote from NY Times article, "Steroids Report Implicates Top Players," by Michael S. Schmidt and Duff Wilson, 12/14/07
  • P.S. JON HEYMAN ON WITH MIKE AND CHRIS DOES THE SAME THING--NOTES HIT ON YANKEE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND MENTIONS PETTITTE IN GROUP OF NAMES. MIKE AND CHRIS SAY NOTHING. LATER HE MENTIONS THE 2002 PETTITTE INCIDENT BUT DOESN'T CORRECT THE PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ASPERSION ON THE LATE 90'S CHAMPIONSHIPS. Again, this report logically excludes players who interacted with individuals other than Radomski and McNamee.
