Bob Nightengale shocks--no mention or photo of shamed former closer
Minnesota's mighty Bob Nightengale is selective in attempts to humiliate late inning relievers or closers about whom he believes he can sway public opinion. He generously passes on making his storyline today what he'd project as that of a shamed late inning reliever in the sunset of his career were the late inning reliever on a different team (ie the Yankees). This esteemed Guardian of the Game, BBWAA voter, maker of fortunes and immortality, ignores the Eric Gagne story and makes it about an entirely different player. Gagne's luck continues. (USA Today story by Bob Nightengale, "Indians Stuff Bosox, even ALCS with 7-run 11th Inning," 10/14/07).
- It's quite a long article, I've read it twice. NIGHTENGALE NEVER MENTIONS ERIC GAGNE'S NAME IN THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. EVEN THOUGH GAGNE GOT THE 'LOSS' FOR THE GAME.
