Newsday--Giambi to have surgery on wrist; Proctor elbow OK after leading AL in appearances

Jason Giambi will undergo arthroscopic surgery Thursday to repair what the Yankees believe is a torn ligament in his left wrist, and team officials are optimistic he will be at full strength by Opening Day. The surgery, which will be performed by Andrew Weiland, finally will determine the extent of the injury, which Giambi suffered during a series in Seattle in late August. ************ Also, according to a report on mlb.com, Scott Proctor visited the team's Tampa complex yesterday to undergo tests on his elbow, including an MRI, after experiencing a clicking sound toward the end of the season. Nothing abnormal was found, Proctor told the Web site.
  • He led the American League with 83 appearances.
(Scott Proctor joins the ranks of well-loved Joe Torre relievers Steve Karsay, Paul Quantrill, Tanyon Sturtze and Ron Villone).
