Kevin Baxter, Miami Herald, says Marlins players make under $500,000
Kevin says no Marlins player will earn over $500,000,
with the exception of Dontrelle Willis, who's arbitration
eligible. The team has virtually no media money or stadium
revenues---few teams could survive under these circumstances.
Which makes Loria and his pals at MLB very big gamblers.
They moved a mountain, won the World Series, and did it all
thinking they'd get a stadium. They didn't figure that politics in
MLB don't translate into the real world. Baxter says
David Samson has very bad relationships with state
politicians, and gee, why should the politicians not give
them money "just because they don't like Samson."
Well, I hope that's not the case, but if it is, it happens
every day in the real world. Baxter also points out
that the Miami Heat had spotty attendance before
they got Shaquille, & that even when the Dolphins were
good, they weren't sold out.
