Virus ends sports, Entercom changes at sports talk station WFAN include John Minko who'll give last WFAN update Friday, April 3 after taking buyout

4/2/20, "John Minko will give last WFAN update Friday after taking buyout," NY Post. Joseph Staszewsk

"Another WFAN original will be signing off. Longtime update man John Minko announced Thursday on Mike Francesa’s Radio.com show that he will be taking a buyout from WFAN’s parent company Entercom because of the economic strain of the coronavirus pandemic. Friday will be the final day for the 67-year-old – nicknamed the “Mink Man” after being part of the fabric of the station for more than three-decades. He started with WFAN when it launched in 1987.

Minko’s exit, which is believed to be voluntary, comes as Entercom informed employees about salary cuts, furloughs and layoffs. Minko also calls St. John’s basketball games for 570 WMCA.

He gained acclaim from his appearances onMike and The Mad Dog" during the 90s and 2000s and became a lovable and knowledge person for the stations’ host to play off of and joke around with."

"It’s an all sports station. There are no sports to talk about and no live play-by-play."
