Yankees to hold 911 ceremony Wed., Sept. 7 beginning at 12:40pm

"The Yankees will hold a special ceremony to honor the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 prior to Wednesday afternoon’s game against the Baltimore Orioles, the team announced.
  • The ceremony has to take place on Wednesday because the Yankees are on the road on Sept. 11.
The team is asking that fans take their seats by 12:30 p.m. with the ceremonies slated to begin at 12:40 p.m. During the ceremony, the Yankees will recognize Sgt. 1st Class Leroy Arthur Petry, who was presented the Congressional Medal of Honor on July 12, 2011. He became the second living recipient of the award for actions occurring since the Vietnam War, distinguishing himself by acts of gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty in action with an armed enemy in the vicinity of Paktya Province, Afghanistan, on May 26, 2008. Additionally, Wounded Warriors from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center and Ft. Belvoir in Virginia will be on the field during the pregame ceremony, escorted by former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
  • Official FDNY Vocalist Regina Wilson, from Engine Company 219, will sing the national anthem and Official FDNY Vocalist Frank Pizarro, from Engine Company 76, will perform "God Bless America." The FDNY Honor Guard will present the colors."
