Ripples in Bay Area radio
"Sports ... and Savage: Michael Savage, the incendiary and controversial talk show host who lives in Marin County and does his program out of various Bay Area locations, has found a new radio home in San Francisco. It's KTRB (860 AM), which began several years ago as a talk station but had become an all-sports station, as home of Stanford football and basketball, Sports Byline, the Oakland A's and other athletic programming ... until now.

- On his Web site, Savage, who had been on KNEW (910 AM) until his show was dropped in September, announced that he would be on KTRB, 3-6 p.m., beginning Feb. 1....
The move, said KTRB managing partner Ken Dennis, was "a classic fumble near the goal line. ... Michael Savage is a legitimate superstar in Bay Area radio." And that, program director Kevin Barrett told me, is one reason for KTRB to add Savage to its sports mix. "We're not changing anything," he said. "It's three hours.... Savage, he argued,
- "does a personality show, not a political show per se. And we will not pursue any other show of that style." As if there were any."...
