Union dues are 1.4% of salary at Boston Globe

"The Boston Newspaper Guild, which reported 732 active members in 2008, reported collecting $605,000 in dues during the 12-month period that ended Sept. 30, according to an annual filing with the U.S. Department of Labor.

  • Using dues collections as a guide, the average salary, not including benefits, within the newspaper’s largest union is about $59,000 a year. Job postings in the past year show that

reporters at the Globe can make anywhere from $43,000 to $72,100 a year."
