Decreased Orioles coverage by Washington Post

But you might have missed it if you weren't reading washingtonpost.com's "Nationals Journal" baseball blog on a Saturday afternoon in late February. ...

• The Orioles, eager for Post coverage to boost fan interest, can point to data last year from Scarborough Research, which measures consumer media habits.

• It showed that nearly 357,000 Orioles fans in the Washington area -- those who attended games at Camden Yards, watched on television or listened to the radio -- were Post readers.

The O's were hoping to convince the WaPo that the latter could enhance its own value by serving Orioles fans. Which may be true but economic hard times intervened.

• The Washington Post stopped covering Orioles road games in 2007.
