'A Potentially Annoying Development,' NY Times
Curry, NY Times: "Some Yankees executives have undoubtedly pondered a potentially annoying development.
- While the Yankees’ playoff streak could end, Torre, the manager who guided them into October for 12 straight seasons, might keep his personal streak alive....
- “There could be tons of water on the boat and the boat could be going down and Joe would come out and say: ‘Guys, stick with the plan. We’re going to be fine,’ ” Bowa said.
- “And the boat somehow gets back to the top. And I think a lot of those veterans were used to that.
- Note, not 'a change,' per Bowa, 'a BIG change.' I heard a tip to these feelings when Alex Rodriguez mentioned Joe Torre's name 2ce in a pre-game interview with Suzyn Waldman, for no apparent reason except that at this late date, Torre's words and presence remain with him. As I indicated, I had every hope Girardi would do well. It may never be known if all his decisions for the team have been his own. (sm)
