Ken Rosenthal on board with Yankee bashing

The harsh language used by Ken Rosenthal to open his Yankee bashing does the following:
  • Gets people to read his article because it bashes the Yankees.
  • Gets Bud Selig and other owners to like Ken Rosenthal more. Instead of an itemized list of how the Yankee fans' money has been spent, focus hatred on the Yankees.
  • Once again tells the Yankee fan to avoid baseball media because it takes this cheap hateful road year in and year out.
  • Waits til the very end of the long article to tell you the Yankees are actually good for baseball. Whether they are or not, this was a an obvious device since many will have stopped reading before that apparent good part about the Yankees.
I'm tired of the tone, subject matter, presentation, and timing of this kind of article.
  • These characterizations of Yankee spending also involve the fan. If the spending really bothers you, Mr. Rosenthal, why not write an article enlisting the help of fans by not buying tickets? That would help if it really concerns you.
Rosenthal's stunning revelations in his article: "Yanks Deep Pockets Set Them Apart," 11/30/07 from FoxSports.com.
  • P.S. I'm a Yankee fan and I do not want Santana, want to keep all our young players, and don't mind being the underdog. I'm sick of this team being used by the media and I'm sick of the passivity of fans in not objecting to it. I don't like anything "brazen" or "gaudy."

  • I don't think the Yankees even pay luxury tax. I'm sure Ken Rosenthal knows this but writes what he wants just for the reasons you stated.

The reason the new Yankee Stadium is being built and being payed for by the Yankees is a team doesn't have to pay Luxury Tax if they are paying for a Stadium. The money you would be paying gets to go to the Stadium cost. Which made them ask themselves "75 million a year to your crooked partners or something that makes you more money, hmmm"? The Yankees have staggered the payments so that they wont be paying Luxury Tax for at least the next 15 years. The rule was drawn up this way to encourage teams to build stadiums and also I think the Diamondbacks had a high payroll at the time and built a New Stadium that they couldn't pay for.

As a matter of fact the stadium wont be paid off for another 20 years. Its amazing what their owner did, he bought the team with borrowed money from MLB. Built a stadium with money borrowed from the bank and then paid his players with money borrowed from Mlb (I'm sure it was the Yankees signing the checks). This kind of thing never happens to me. The Diamondbacks owner is a piece of work, they gift wrapped the team to him and then refused to go to the American league forcing the Brewers to go to the National league. I'm gonna stick with being a nice guy though I'm sure it'll pay off soon.

But back to my original point. This was reported on by the press. They of course tried to put a negative spin on it. Don't hero worship Steinbrenner, he's doing this for himself not the fans. Sports writers are such communists.

  • Baseball owners are quite a bunch of characters along with their celebrity pals in the media. I understand a new stadium can provide relief from the luxury tax, eg. chauffeur service for David Glass's son, & they did get a couple years of it from the Yankees. I know one year recently it was around $34 million. Why don't they write articles about what exactly is done with that money?
