Chuck did give James a little time--- he said he was almost more impressed with 2 very speedy outfielders on the winning White Sox team than he was with their great pitching. Chuck asked him if there were too many young guys getting into management these days, & he said no, he hoped there would be more. Said people often talk about speedy infielders, but he'd rather have speedy outfielders. He of course values defense a lot.
Bill James also said he wasn't inter- ested in players who had good looking faces, or who were described as "athletic." He said all he wants to know is if the guy is "productive."

Did James have anything earth-shattering to say? Or did Wilson give him an opportunity?
