Susan Slusser on with Charley Steiner re A's moves

Susan's may be the front office point of view, so you can take it from there. Charley Steiner did a fairly courageous thing for him which was to ask about the likelihood of Dusty Baker for the Oakland job (Charley had seen him last night at a function & Dusty expressed interest). Susan thought it not likely:
  • Dusty would need too much money and has too "big a personality" for this team. Beane is the face of the team.
  • Bob Geron is frontrunner, followed by Ron Washington and others.
She defended Beane's perception as being overly involved saying he was admittedly tough on Art Howe but not so bad with Ken Macha. What I don't get is:
  • Why would you take the job knowing you can't even do your own lineup, and
  • The players can't respect you because they know you're a puppet?
